During the Medellin Flower Festival 2008, the
city of Medellin will have 10 days of spectacular events. One
thing not to miss is the Santa Elena tour! Santa Elena's Colombia
Farm houses open up to visitors during the flower festival. This
is truely one of Medellin's hidden treaures!
Catch a bus from El Centro (downtown Medellin) up to Santa Elena
either in the daytime or to party at night time. After a winding
around on endless turns you will get a birds eye view of Medellin
as you arrive in the mountain top community of Santa Elena. It
is chilly up there when the sun is not shinning so bring a jacket!
The alititude is around 8,000 feet, 3,000 feet higher than Medellin!
These photos are from the 2006 Feria de las Flores. Thousands
walk the streets of this pueblo from farm house to farm house
each year. Many of the farms
allow people to come in and watch them while they scramble
to put together their silletas. Silleteros as they are called,
carry these silletas on their backs. Its hard work to build them,
and very hard to carry these wooden
frames! Companies usually sponser the silleteros
as it takes a lot of hard work to put together these beautiful
displays. The silletero parade is usually on the last day of the
flower festival. The first
week of August Medellin hosts 'La
Feria de las Flores", (the
flower festival). In 2008 the Flower
Festival Events will run from 1st
- 10th of August.
